Not enough wonderful things can be said about this amazing Turkish style spa at the south end of the Granville Street bridge. Here you can escape your regular life and retreat to Morocco or some Arabian Nights fantasy. This happens the instant you cross the threshold and breathe in the exotically scented air. Whether as a couple, a single or with same sex friends, the Hammam Gommage steam and exfoliation treatment Miraj is one of the most sensual things you can ever do for yourself.
Disrobe, put on a colourful sarong and leave your cares behind. Enter the marble steam room with Moroccan style arches and large fountain at the center. For about 20 minutes inhale the warm, moist, fragrant air (remember to hydrate) and relax to the soothing sound of trickling water. You will then be taken to the less steamy part of the room where you lie naked on a marble slab on top of your sarong and are scrubbed down with olive oil soap imported from Morocco. A cool rinse leaves you tingling and cleansed.
Post Hammam Gommage, I usually opt (as a minimum) for the Nettoyage de Peau (a basic 15 minute facial) and a 15 minute massage in one of the three treatment rooms. After this you are then ushered in the Sultana lounge. Languid and relaxed you lie sipping spiced tea and nibbling on some sweet treat. By the time you leave you are floating out the door. I often find it a shock to find a North American street outside.
There are men only and women only days at Miraj but every Sunday is reserved for couples. A great beginning or ending for a romantic overnight at one of the local area hotels.
